PSU Libraries Meets Facebook

We've all heard about Facebook, the social networking site that lets you connect with friends. 93% of PSU students have a Facebook profile! Some intrepid Libraries folks who are working on social networking issues asked the question,"What if these students could search for library materials inside Facebook?" Emily Rimland and Binky Lush joined forces with members of ETS (Education Technology Services) to create the new Libraries Facebook application!

Through the Libraries Facebook application, you can search The CAT and ProQuest, and follow QuickLinks to: the E-Resource List, Course Reserves, My Account, Hours, and ASK! a Librarian. If you aren't already a member of the Facebook community, this is a good reason to join.

The new application premiered at the Fall 2007 Libraries Open House, and 909 users added it over the two-day event. We received comments that we like to hear, such as: "This is very convenient," "This is cool!"

The Libraries Facebook app is still in beta - more social components to the application are in the planning stages. Binky and Emily would be pleased to receive feedback from you. In the meantime, we'll see you on Facebook!
