Plans for Vista and Windows 7 in PSU Classroom and Labs

Last year, ITS/TLT announced a tentative plan to migrate from Windows XP to Vista by Fall 2009. They recently re-evaluated the plan, and decided to continue using Windows XP in Penn State classrooms and labs through Spring 2010. Windows 7 will also be fully deployed in 2010.

Here is a summary of their current plan:

• Continue to use Windows XP in classrooms/labs through Fall 2009 and Spring 2010
• Have builds of Windows 7 in classroom/lab infrastructure working by January 2010; begin deploying test workstations for end users to review during Spring 2010
• Begin migration of all labs and classrooms to Windows 7 at the beginning of Summer 2010
• Complete deployment for Fall Semester, 2010
  

This is assuming, of course, that the Windows 7 final version is available and stable by December 2009. Meanwhile Windows 7 beta is running on many staff computers.
