How to Check your auto-backup on your Personal Network Drive Space
Using Windows Explorer, navigate
roo to the
U:/ directory, and find the file that ends with
.bak. Then, check the following:
- Is there just one .bak file in your entire U-drive? If not, stay tuned, and a future Tech Tip will tell you how to eliminate extra backups.
- Is the file Size between 1,000,000 and 4,000,000 KB?
Too low? You might not be backing up everything you need.
Too high? You may be backing up too much. Stay tuned for an upcoming Tech Tip on what you should—and should not—back up.
- Is Date Modified within the past two weeks? You may have an old password or the machine may be off during the scheduled time. Check scheduled backup time and fix your password as described below.
How to reset your auto-backup Password
- Click the green Start button (bottom left).
- Click All Programs→Accessories→System Tools→Scheduled Tasks.
- Then, right click on your auto-backup and select Properties.
- To reset your password, choose the Task tab, and click the Set Password button.
Extra Hints...- Supply the same password you use to log into Windows.
- You must supply a password, or Backup won’t run, even if it’s scheduled.
How to check your auto-backup scheduled Frequency/Time
- Click the green Start button, and click through to Properties, as described above.
- Choose the Schedule tab, and note the scheduled day and time for your backup. Make sure your workstation will be on during the specified time. If it is turned off, no backup will occur.

My backup file extension is .bkf and not .bak. Is this a problem?
