- If you already have a footer in your document, start by clicking on it, then press Enter to advance to the next line, where your filename/path will be inserted without writing over existing footer text.
- If you don't have a footer, go to the ribbon and click the Insert tab. Then, in the Header & Footer group, click Footer, and select one of the footer choices.
- Once you have a footer, highlight one of its empty footer fields.
- Note the label above the ribbon called Header & Footer Tools. Click the Design tab beneath it. From the Design tab ribbon, find the Insert group, then click on the Quick Parts button, and choose Field.
- The Field dialog box opens, where you can choose the following:
- Categories: All
- Field names: FileName
- Field options: Add path to filename
